The Invitation
On the ashes of a battlefield
A maiden walks along
She is guided by a fate revealed
In dreams she has had so long
Wisps of smoke curl in the sky
And far below a man could die
But she’ll find him with open eyes
And tend him, faithful at his side
This, her invitation
To be led by another’s will
Fortune’s designation
Was to find him living still
Dreams in the open air
As the smoke and the dust fade before her
Sight in a moment where
The world should have been a blur
On the ashes of a battlefield
A maiden kneels beside a man
They are joined here by a force concealed
And can but accept its plan
See how she kneels so tenderly
See how she tends him gingerly
See how her gaze turns inwardly
As she prays he will see her earnestly
Wounds are closed with cloth
But pain is known besides
And so she make his broth
And takes his temper in strides
From the ashes of a battlefield
A maiden does not leave
But a woman with her fate now sealed
Who has helped a man to breathe
And they travel far and wide as one
Their destiny is intertwined
And the story that they have begun
Is a tale that each of us must find
