I told myself I would post a couple of poems a week until I catch up with all the poems I’ve already written for games. I’m thinking I’ll mostly post these on Mondays and Fridays, but today I’m going to go ahead and share one that is about the first adventure of a young party who came to be called ‘the Company of the Rose’.
The Company of the Rose
Let me tell you a tale of wanderers brave who fared the desert sun
And made their way to a terrible grave and there, their glory, won
So their dreams were known and their name was writ by the deeds they’d done
And life began in a newer way below our harsh, hot sun
They traveled far across the sands, a full week’s journey passed
With ne’er the aid of another’s hands, their course they did keep fast
And they prayed and prayed that the heat would yield and the rations carried last
Til they found the lair of a dragon dead, who long ago had passed
Puzzles and traps and worse things waited
There within that lair so baited
Drawing them in til their want was sated
For battle and treasure grand
And the day’s long trek found them fighting Cultists of the Dragon’s way
With swords and magic both in hand their resolve ne’er did sway
Not for dragonkin, nor for monsters either, did their hearts give way
And in the end even dragon’s ghost could not bar our heroes’ way
They’d traveled far and they’d fought their battles there in that cold, dark place
And in the end even dragon’s ghost could not bar our heroes’ way
Puzzles and traps and worse things waited
There within that lair so baited
Drawing them in til their want was sated
For battle and treasure grand
Well they’ve returned now, to Calimport with a story at their backs
And they’re making way in the warrior’s world, with treasure in their packs
And they offer us a dreamer’s hope as their story is proven by facts
For who could conjure a greater feat to be behind their backs
And as the sun shines upon the streets and the sand and the glass they glow
Behold my friends the heroic deeds of the Company of the Rose
Puzzles and traps and worse things waited
There within that lair so baited
Drawing them in til their want was sated
For battle and treasure grand~
This campaign was set in Calimshan in Forgotten Realms. We ran it with the Pathfinder mechanics, but used gray box rules. Obviously Calimport is copyrighted by Wizards of the Coast, but the characters and the campaign activities in this instance were all our own creating. 🙂
I’m using this, few alteration, again credit given.
